Going Green
Setting one foot (or paw) on the CCR property can be breathtaking. Pristine blue skies, white clouds, green grass, the trickling waterfall, bleeting goats and sheep… it’s all idyllic. While CCR is wholly dedicated to paw prints and those who make them, we are increasingly concerned about the impact of our carbon footprint and preservation. We are always investigating new ways to 'go green', and we've already taken a few steps:
- We are using eco-friendly, all-natural earthdog© leads and collars now. They are manufactured by a carbon-neutral company. They are biodegradable but durable and strong enough to restrain even the most determined Labrador or Rottweiler. (Even if that Lab or Rotti is being teased by the feisty barn cats 'Stache or Emily!)
- At CCR, we're always on doggie duty. We've switched from using regular, convenience-store, plastic bags to biodegradable, compostable, bags that are basically "made of corn". Use of these bags means the bag as well as the contents are biodegradable, eliminating the waste ending up in landfills.
- We are investigating the best all-natural food to provide for our dogs, especially in the wake of the recent pet food recalls.
- CCR has made the shift to using "green" cleaning products including laundry detergent, dish detergents and general cleaners.
We recognize that this is a work in progress, but it is an important cause.
Everyone at CCR takes great pride in our surroundings. The rural, farm setting keeps us in-tune to nature. The goats are happy to eat leftover bread. The rabbits and horses love to munch on our fresh-grown veggies. The peaceful nature of the horses looking curiously over the split-rail fences add to the tranquillity of the resort. John and Lisa regularly enjoy milk from their goats and eggs from their guinea hens.
Canine Country Resort is working to do its part and is open to any suggestions!
